Everything has a beginning. So is the stock market.
The oldest stock exchange in the world started in Antwerp, Belgium in 1460 under the rule of Philip the Good. It traded financial securities primarily bonds. The Antwerp stock exchange also became the first to keep written records of its trading.
In 1531,its house securities trading got its own building. Also in 1531, a New Stock Exchange was built on the busiest shopping street of Antwerp, known as “Meir.” It was the first building in the world designed as a stock exchange and a trade exchange. It burned down in 1858 and was reconstructed in an intricate Neo-Gothic style.
